Friday on The Chad Hasty Show, Patrick Svitek from the Texas Tribune joined Chad to talk about what's happening on the Texas Tribune and down in Austin.

Svitek and Hasty discussed property tax reform, the response to it, the upcoming State of the State Address, Beto O'Rourke, and more.

When asked about the unity between the Governor, the Speaker, and the Lieutenant Governor in regards to property tax reform, Svitek said that he wasn't too surprised, but that he believes that it certainly gets a message across. He went on to talk about yesterday's news conference, and how it sent a message to any moderate republicans who were not on board, where he said,

"If you look at what was actually said at the news conference, very little was said about the legislation. 95% of that news conference was focused on sending this message that, hey, as we said earlier, 'the train is leaving the station. Don't get in our way.' I think that message was very clear yesterday."

Still on the topic of property tax reform, Svitek said that the concern and response between both Democrats and Republicans is that this could tie the hands of local government, and could lead to a reduction in emergency services which could put people in a tight spot.
