I will start by saying that Martin Bashir did apologize for his more detestable comments, and I respect and give him credit for doing the right thing and excuse the most disgusting parts of his comments under the assumption that he is genuinely as remorseful as he claims and will not be so absurd again.

Unfortunately, the personal attack with less than minimal substance on the issues on Mrs. Palin is something that happens far too often to be excused.

In Bashir’s whole rant against Mrs. Palin’s comparison of debt to slavery he never did address the issue she had raised of the dangers of massive public debt and the inevitable requirement of re-payment.

This is very common among all the major networks’ liberal talking heads when a conservative makes an argument, with these same people never seeing the hypocrisy they, themselves, exhibit.

I saw a comment on one of the stories about Bashir’s rant that made the point very clear when the commentor asked, “Would an apology have been enough to get the story to go away had the headline been ‘Sean Hannity calls for defecating and urinating on Nancy Pelosi’?”.

Not that Mr. Hannity would ever say anything so despicable, but I’m sure if he did his show would be very quickly canceled and the stories would be front page for months, linking his comments to every possible right wing politician and group.

But since Bashir is a liberal, it’s only going over the line because even he realized he went too far, and being a liberal, it must have been a mistake of passion that is completely forgiven with his apology.

Had he been conservative, it would have been a stark reveal of the horrid bigotry and hatred of all those on the right and only his firing and the denouncement of all right-wingers would even begin to satisfy.

Anyone still remember when Rush Limbaugh suggesting a left-wing agitator who claimed to go broke on her birth control expenditures was a slut?

It’s not difficult to see that the left uses much more inflammatory and disgustingly violent and hateful rhetoric than the right, and that they make little attempt to debate the merits over personal attacks.

I believe that this rabid double standard stems from a sense of elitism and dogmatic, almost religious zeal the left feel for their ideals.

This rigid ideological refusal to even consider any opinion but their own was summed up best by William F. Buckley when he said, “Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views”.

A decision and a stand needs to be made, either we are okay with both sides hurling disgusting personal attacks back and forth and we drop the pretense of any kind of debate on ideas or we need to go after all those that use such disgusting rhetoric, regardless of what side they are on.

That means you liberals need to start holding your own as accountable as you demand the right be held.
