Off-Duty Border Patrol Agent Linked to Fatal Texas Shooting
Investigators say a man has died in a West Texas shooting involving an off-duty Border Patrol agent in gunfire not related to the officer's law enforcement duties.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating what prompted the shooting before dawn Sunday.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the 300 block of Melendez Road in Socorro on Sunday at around 4:30 a.m. for reports of an aggravated assault taking place.
One male victim was found dead at the scene with a gunshot wound.
The sheriff's office didn't immediately say who opened fire or further circumstances of the shooting. Names of two men involved in the shooting have also not been released.
A statement Tuesday from the Border Patrol says an agent from the El Paso sector was involved and the incident included the discharge of a firearm.
Border Patrol officials have not yet provided additional information about the agent.
