
Starbase Became The Newest City in Texas Over The Weekend
Elon Musk had a big win over the weekend. He won a new city.
The home of SpaceX in south Texas where rockets can light up the sky is now an official city in Texas, and it has a pretty cool name, Starbase.
On Saturday, a very small group of voters, people already living in the area of Starbase, voted to become a city. The Cameron County Elections Office reported the official tally as 212 votes for becoming a city to six votes against becoming a city.

Starbase becomes the 1,226 city in Texas after the vote on Saturday. After the vote on Saturday, Elon Musk took to X to celebrate.
According to ABC News, Elon Musk first mentioned the idea of Starbase in 2021 and most of those who voted in the election are thought to be employees of SpaceX. Imagine voting against the boss in this election.

Local officials were supportive of Starbase becoming a city. The area around Starbase has benefitted from the jobs and boost to the economy thanks to SpaceX, the launches, and tourism.
There were critics of the plan according to ABC News. Critics who believe Musk will now have too much control over the area.
What Is In Starbase, Texas?
Starbase is the home of SpaceX which is where the launch site is for the SpaceX rocket program. SpaceX has a contract with the Department of Defense and NASA with hopes of sending astronauts back to the moon and eventually Mars.
SpaceX also is along side part of Boca Chica Beach which on some launch days must be closed due to rocket launches. Tourists also flock to the area to watch the launches.
