New regional U.S. Patent Offices are being planned for different areas of the country.

The U.S. Government plans to open regional U.S. Patent and Trademark Offices in or around Dallas, Texas, Denver, Colorado, and Silicon Valley, California.

These offices are in addition to the previously-announced construction of the first USPTO satellite office in Detroit, Michigan, which is slated to open July 13th.

The offices will help the USPTO attract intellectual property experts throughout the country, who will work with entrepreneurs to process patent applications, reduce the backlog of unexamined patents, and speed up the overall process.

The organization says this will help allow businesses to move their innovation to market more quickly and give them more room to create new jobs.

“By expanding our operation outside of the Washington metropolitan area for the first time in our agency’s 200-plus year history, we are taking unprecedented steps to recruit a diverse range of talented technical experts, creating new opportunities across the American workforce,” said USPTO Director David Kappos.

These satellite USPTO offices were required by the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act of 2011, which was signed into law in September.

No timeline for these three satellite offices has been announced as of yet.
