Texas' best invention is the electric typewriter, according to a recent state-by-state roundup of inventions from BusinessInsider.com.

In 1912, James Field Smathers of Valley Spring Texas invented it. He was inspired by a personal need for an easier to use version of the typewriter, according to the Texas State Historical Association.

While others soon jumped in to produce what became a very popular idea and Smathers eventually moved to New York to consult on production and development, the credit for the electronic typewriter belongs to the state of Texas.

The more you learn about this great state, the more you love it. Congratulations, Texas!
