4th on Broadway is back on for 2021, but the parade route will look much different. In fact, the biggest part of Broadway being used is in the actual name of the event this year.

The new parade route will begin at 19th Street and Canyon Lakes Drive and run north towards Joyland on Canyon Lakes Drive, then turn onto Cesar E. Chavez Drive inside Mackenzie Park. This means the entire parade this year will happen inside Mackenzie Park.

According to organizers, the new parade route comes with many advantages including less restricted views, better parking, and more comfortable areas to watch the parade since attendees will be on grass the entire time with trees throughout the park. In a press release, Broadway Festivals Inc. President, Don Caldwell is hoping that the changes will provide a cooler and safer event overall.

“From the Sonic parade to the Alderson BMW daytime concert stages, the Fibermax kids’ area and Lubbock Music Now singer/songwriter stage to Covenant Children’s youth fishing tournament hosted by Cabela’s, through the River Smith’s eating contests in the Sunbelt cool zones, and into the night with the United Supermarkets evening concert and the Gorilla Law Firm fireworks extravaganza, we want this event to be welcoming to everyone,” Caldwell said. “We think starting it off in a safer, cooler way through the beautiful Lubbock parks system is a great way to begin the day.”

This will be the 31st Annual 4th on Broadway. Last year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials had to make the tough decision to make the event a televised event.
