It shouldn't surprise anyone that according to FinanceBuzz, pickup trucks were the most targeted and stolen in Texas in 2024.
Chevy, not Ford, the Most Stolen Truck in Texas
Fans of Ford Trucks, you can breathe a little easier. Pickup trucks were the most stolen vehicle by far in Texas last year, but it was the Chevrolet Silverado that was the most stolen vehicle in Texas last year. According to KHOU, 6,453 Chevy Silverado trucks were stolen in 2024. The GMC Sierra was the second most stolen vehicle in Texas with 1,500 stolen.
Other Popular Vehicles on the Most Stolen List in Texas
According to KHOU, Hyundai and Kia models made the most stolen list in Texas as well, but behind the two trucks.
Overall, the Hyundai Elantra is the number one stolen vehicle in 21 states. The Chevrolet Silverado was the most popular stolen truck in nine states and the Ford F150 was the most popular truck stolen in six states.
TikTok To Blame For Rise In Auto Thefts?
According to KHOU, there is a viral video on TikTok that shows how to start an engine using a screwdriver and USB cable. That could be a possible reason why we have seen an increase in theft. TikTok videos also show thieves ripping out alarms.
Some experts say a steering wheel lock can provide extra protection against thieves.
