More than 7 tons of marijuana has been seized by U.S. Border Patrol Agents in the Rio Grande Valley area in the past week.

The first sizable seizure was made on Tuesday, when agents saw people north of the river loading bundles of the drug into an SUV. The men attempted to flee the scene, and the chase was on by a Border Patrol helicopter. The driver abandoned the vehicle near Escobares, leaving investigators to find the 1,400 pounds of marijuana.

Another seizure in the same area netted a 900 pound find for Border Patrol on Thursday, and other seizures resulted in over 14,000 pounds of marijuana.
