Lubbock drivers are being encouraged to avoid a damaged water line in the area of 54th Street and Quaker Avenue.

A private contractor reportedly struck the water line while performing work on Sunday. Since then, water has been seen spilling out from under cracked pavement and flooding nearby streets.

Lubbock police were called to block off portions of the roadway yesterday. Drivers are being encouraged to avoid the area of 54th and Quaker while water crews make repairs.
