Lubbock has lost another favorite.

Pie Bar, which opened in 2011 under the name The Chocolate Mousse Pie Bar, has closed its doors. On Sunday, the Facebook account for the Original Pie Bar posted a fairly cryptic message just saying "Thank you Lubbock" and it included pictures of the Pie Bar's different locations since opening in 2011. The first location was a small building on 50th Street.

Facebook posts from the owners of Pie Bar confirm that the sweet shop has ended its 11-year run in the Hub City. Those 11 years saw Pie Bar really take off. At one point there were two Lubbock locations of the Pie Bar and even talk of franchises in different cities. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and, like so many other businesses in Lubbock and across the nation, Pie Bar's business was impacted severely.

Instead of continuing to grow like plans had called for, Pie Bar closed one location to focus on the location on Milwaukee Avenue. During the pandemic they focused on getting product out anyway they could including delivery.

Pie Bar was able to make it out of the pandemic, but it took a heavy toll on the business and the outlook for its future. Like many other businesses, even trying to hire employees has been difficult.

The good news? Carson and Mary McCabe aren't through. According to a Facebook post, a new concept will be coming soon from the family that brought Lubbock Pie Bar. What is the new concept? For now, it's a secret. Who knows? Maybe we'll see a side pie show up every now and then. We wish them the best of luck with their new venture.
