Lubbock’s First News Discusses Rush Limbaugh’s “Slut” Controversy [AUDIO]
On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, hosts Chad Hasty and Rex Andrew came in defense of some controversial comments made by Rush Limbaugh.
Last week, Rush Limbaugh made plenty of people angry when he called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" for lobbying the U.S. government to, essentially, pay for birth control. According to Fluke, birth control cost her $3,000 a year and she could no longer afford it. Limbaugh, on his program, jokingly referred to Fluke as a slut and a prostitute, resulting in a firestorm of criticism and the loss of several advertisers from his program. Limbaugh has since apologized for his comment.
Chad defended Limbaugh's comments, saying that the comment was meant to be a joke, and that the people who are getting angry with Limbaugh are "hypocrites," since they have probably also used the word "slut" to describe someone else, even if they didn't say it to their face. He said that, since Fluke put herself out into the public eye, she was no longer a private individual, and is subject to ridicule for her actions. He added that, for trying to force a Catholic institution like Georgetown to forsake its religious principles and offer birth control, "slut" was one of the nicer things he could call Fluke
Chad also thought that $3,000 a year for birth control was "unbelievable," and that he was upset that Limbaugh caved in to pressure and apologized for his comments. Many of our listeners called in and sided with Chad and Rex, some of them condemning Fluke for her actions, and some of the voicing their continued support for Rush Limbaugh.
