Lubbock is known for its music, colleges, prairie dogs and hopefully now boxing. Preparation started two weeks ago at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center to get it in tip top shape just like the athletes that were set to compete. Boxers from all across the country made their way to Lubbock to be able to show case their skills and prove that they deserve a national title.

This National Championship is also the first qualifier for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing with over 1,000 boxers, ranging in ages nine to 39, who are preparing to fight for a chance to land a spot on Team USA. There will also be eight out of nine boxers who previously represented Team USA in boxing to check out potential future team mates.

According to teamusa.org Lubbock was chosen as the location for the 2022 National Championships due to its location, affordability, and it's accessibility by car and plane. This is not the first time Lubbock has seen some type of Olympic event as last year the 2021 National Junior Olympics and Summer were also held in the Hub City and will be hosting more events in 2023. In a live on-air interview on Sunrise LBK John Osborne, president and chief executive officer of Lubbock Sports, stated that this event has very much been a positive for Lubbock and it's boxing community as well as the economy of the Hub City as a whole.

The National Championships did begin on December 5 and all competition has been open to the public for their chance to get a look at potential Team USA members before they've made the team. The last boxing session will begin at noon, December 10, and admission for that last day of competition will be $25 to attend and watch the finals for the youth, junior, and elite divisions.
