A Lubbock native has received a state transportation honor. Steve Warren, Lubbock District transportation, planning and development director, has been honored with the Gibb Gilchrist Award at the 86th Annual Texas Department of Transportation Short-Course conference.

“For the past 19 years, Steve has been a vital force in moving transportation projects forward in the Lubbock District and around the state,” said Doug Eichorst, P.E., Lubbock District engineer.

“During his tenure as the Lubbock TP&D, he’s secured over $394 million in funding for the freeway corridor and other major district mobility projects.”

Warren’s commitment to work with TxDOT’s transportation partners has resulted in securing funding that has helped complete four of the five phases of the Marsha Sharp Freeway project. The award is to honor one of the top state highway engineer each year.
