Lubbock's May Municipal Elections will soon be underway.

Election Day is May 2nd with Early Voting starting on Monday, April 20 until Tuesday, April 28.

Lubbock City Council Election May 2026

There are four seats up for election. That includes the the Mayor and City Council Districts 1, 3, and 5. Later, there will be a special election for fill the District 4 seat.

Lubbock Mayoral Candidates

Unlike Council Members, who get a four term, the Mayor of Lubbock is up for reelection every 2 years. These are the candidates:

  • Incumbent Mayor Mark McBrayer. Elected as Mayor in 2024 after spending 2 years on the City Council.
  • Stephan Sanders- Sanders is a local community activist and has run for Mayor 5 times in Lubbock. He is also a musician.
  • Peggy Bohmfalk, veteran and digital content creator.
  • G. Todd Winans, self-employed businessman.

District 1 City Council

  • Incumbent City Councilwoman Christy Martinez-Garcia. Garcia was first elected to the Lubbock City Council in 2022.
  • Pat Kelly, businessman, former Lubbock Police Officer. Kelly has run for the office before and lost.

District 3 City Council

The incumbent in this race is not running for office. Instead you have three candidates running for this seat.

  • David Bruegel, chairman of the Lubbock County Republican Party and Businessman.
  • Adam Hernandez, Community Activists
  • Gil Caley, interim president of Lubbock's PFLAG LGBTQ organization.

District 5 City Council

Councilman Jennifer Wilson is all alone on the ballot on her way winning again.

Election Day is May 2nd.
