Lubbock Meals on Wheels Is Looking for Volunteers for This Year’s ‘Feed a Friend…It’s Easy as Pie’ Event
Lubbock Meals on Wheels is looking for help from the community in collecting $5 donations and handing out coupons for free Mrs. Smith's Pie.
Any civic groups, churches, businesses, or simply individuals (such as yourself) are welcome to donate time to a cause so near and dear to us all.
Lubbock Meals on Wheels generally sets up tables to take donations at United Supermarkets and Market Street stores. But this year due to social distancing regulations, they unfortunately aren't going to have that luxury and will need help from our community more than ever to get these delicious pies out there to everyone.
Lubbock Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that delivers over 850 meals on weekdays and 300 meals on weekends, allowing over 900 people to keep their independence and stay well-fed at home. Roughly 1,600 volunteers help to keep this operation afloat, and there is no time better than the season of Thanksgiving to reach out and help others.
This holiday season will be much different from those in the past. Some folks, especially in our elderly community, will be more isolated from family and friends due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Receiving a meal from Lubbock Meals on Wheels could be the best part of their day right now, so let's make sure we take care of our own and donate to this wonderful organization.
If you or someone you know would like to help out a great cause, please contact Mary at 806-792-7971. Easy as Pie only lasts until November 25th, so don't hesitate to snag this opportunity to make a difference in our community. In my experience, the best way to celebrate the holidays is with plenty of pie.
