A driver was fatally injured last night when his sedan crashed into a tree in south Lubbock. It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of 39th Street. The collision left the man trapped in the car against the tree. The victim was identified as John Williams.

Police Sergeant John Hayes  said Williams had just left his house on 39th St. and was heading east when he lost control of his car. High speed indicated by skid marks was believed to be a factor in the wreck. Williams was not wearing a seat belt.
