Lubbock ISD Seeks Community Input on Naming 3 New Elementary Schools

Lubbock ISD will be hosting a town hall meeting on Wednesday, July 22, at the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center, 3201 Avenue Q. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m., and your input is requested as they find official names for the three brand new elementary schools.

The construction of the three schools was approved by the voters in a 2025 bond.

Even more, names will be considered not just for the schools themselves, but also for individual buildings and parts of buildings like wings, annexes, libraries, gyms, and outdoor fields.

What Are the Rules for Naming Each School?

Now, before you start brainstorming all your ideas and funny jokes for naming these buildings, keep in mind that the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees takes several factors into consideration before making their final decision.

For example, these are some things to keep in mind for all citizens looking to submit some entries:

• Names can be related to nearby geographical features or local events with historical ties
• Names can reflect certain programs or functions associated with the specific facility (i.e. AgriSTEM Complex)
• Names can be related to notable figures whose influence spreads locally or statewide or community members responsible for furthering education within the district
