Attention Lubbock: From April 1 through September 30, the city is implementing irrigation restrictions for the spring and summer seasons. This means your sprinklers in your front yard are indeed regulated for the next couple of months.

Lubbock Sprinkler Year-Round Restrictions

Let's take a look at some city restrictions that all residents must adhere to. One major rule is that you may only irrigate your property two days per week. Now, before you panic, this does not apply to hand-watering. There is no limit on the amount of time you spend each week watering your plants with a pitcher or watering can.

The city restrictions are only for automated irrigation ranging from those large wheeled sprinkler carts you see on farms to front yard plastic sprinklers.

Your two assigned watering days each week correspond to the last digit in your address. For instance, if your home address ends in 0, 3, 4, or 9, then you may irrigate your property on Mondays and Thursdays. If your address ends in 1, 5, or 6, then Tuesdays and Fridays are for you. Finally, those with home addresses ending in 2, 7, or 8 are allowed to irrigate their properties on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Sundays are restricted for all residents, no matter your address.

Spring and Summer Recommendations

On the days that you water your property, try to keep the following tips in mind, starting with avoiding runoff. By watering for 3 to 4 minutes at a time and leaving the water to soak into the soil for a bit, then repeating the process about five times, you can help conserve water and encourage roots to grow deeper.

Also, when you choose to irrigate your property automatically, try and schedule a time between midnight and 10 a.m. Another option is 6 p.m. to midnight. This avoids the hottest parts of the day and prevents evaporation.

The key takeaway here is to remember the days in Lubbock that you are permitted to irrigate your property. Unless, of course, you are doing it all by hand, in which case it's just on you to try not to waste your water bill...
