A Lubbock grand jury has indicted a 27-year-old man for injury to a child.

Court documents show that 27-year-old John Johnson was arrested in May after an investigation by Lubbock Police and Child Protective Services revealed potential abuse and neglect of a 4-year-old boy who lives with him.

The investigation began in January when employees of a local charter school called CPS after the boy showed signs of extensive bodily bruising. Teachers who were interviewed by CPS claim the boy also showed signs of unusual hunger and a severe lack of hygiene, smelling like urine and wearing the same clothes "for several days, if not weeks, in a row."

Johnson posted bail and is out of jail.
