Monday morning Lubbock Fire Department posted an update to social media stating that "units responded to a number of structures hit by lightning. Most had no fires."

During the weekend following the 4th of July record amounts of rainfall were recorded in several communities across the South Plains. Lubbock was no exception with four inches of rainfall recorded at Lubbock International Airport. The storms brought impressive amounts of rainfall and also dangerous cloud to ground lightning.

Remember that if you hear thunder or see lightning, even if it's not raining, you should move indoors. If you smell or see smoke, you should call 9-1-1 immediately.
