Lubbock County’s burn ban has been lifted.

County Judge Tom Head determined Thursday afternoon that the areas in unincorporated areas of Lubbock County no longer create a public safety hazard.

The lifting of this ban means that setting off fireworks to help ring in the New Year is also allowed in unincorporated areas of the county. Residents are allowed to buy most kinds of fireworks in the area, except those described as “skyrockets with sticks” and “missiles with fins.”

Anyone responsible for a fire which gets out of control could face civil and criminal liability for the damages.

All are advised to stay updated on wind and weather conditions, and to keep fire extinguishers or adequate amounts of water on hand to extinguish fires.
