Drive around Lubbock and really anywhere in Texas and throughout the country and you will see what everyone else is seeing. Gas prices continuing to increase as oil prices hit then backed off $100 a barrel on Thursday. Gas prices have been rising since President Joe Biden took office and rising inflation hasn't helped anything.
Add to that now Russia invading Ukraine and many experts are expecting prices to continue to increase with some predicting that many in the United States could see a price of $4.00 per gallon.
In Lubbock, according to the app GasBuddy, we are sitting at about $2.99 a gallon at most gas stations across the city. Some gas stations are listed a little higher, some lower, but not by much. In Abilene, gas is already above $3.00 a gallon ranging in price from $3.06 to $3.29 a gallon.
According to CBS News, AAA is warning people not to panic, but to expect gas prices to rise.
"Prices are going to go up," said Andrew Gross, a public relations manager at AAA. "Will we see $4 a gallon? If you live in California, you've already been seeing it for a long time," Gross said. But if you live in Texas or Oklahoma where gas is selling for $3.20 a gallon, "there's a long way to go," he added.
There is no need for drivers to panic, as people "are not going to wake up tomorrow and not be able to afford gas," stressed Gross. "There's plenty of gasoline, there's plenty of oil. If this war is resolved quickly, you will see prices come back down."
So yes, gas prices are going to rise and how much is anyone's guess right now. But with fuel prices going up and inflation on the rise, prices on many if not all products could increase.
