If you have any experience buying a house, you know the feelings of stress and anxiety while waiting for a seller’s response to your offer.

There are plenty of factors that go into whether or not homeowners accept an offer  made on their listing. They might deny your offer if it was too low, you asked for too many contingencies, or someone simply gave a better offer.

One thing you may not have thought about is that a seller could deny your offer because they didn't like something you said about their home.

How would they know if you said anything bad? Well, even though you may not directly say anything negative about the home to the sellers, they could be listening in on conversations you have with your real estate agent.

I recently came across a TikTok that shared how many sellers have a Ring doorbell or other cameras inside their homes and will listen in on the things you tell your real estate agent during a tour.

The video shares examples of what some buyers might say about a home that the seller may not appreciate. Saying things like, "their furniture was hideous" or "must be a divorce situation" is not going to put you in a positive light to the seller.

One commenter mentioned that before having cameras easily accessible in her house, she used to hide under the bed in the house she was selling to eavesdrop on the real estate agent and buyer's conversations.

I don’t know that I support eavesdropping on these conversations (especially to the extent of hiding under a bed), but I understand wanting to ensure your house goes into good hands. It's good to be mindful that although you're looking to make that house your home, it was someone else’s home first and they may still be attached to it.

Either way, the next time you're looking to buy a house, remember that what you said in that house might be why your offer was declined.
