According to statements, the group spent the evening together at the residence where they all consumed large amounts of alcohol. At one point around one in the morning, a woman decided to use the restroom. According to Everything Lubbock, this was when she asked someone for another roll of toilet paper.

24-year-old Jerry Davis overheard the conversation and proceeded to grab a new roll himself. When Davis returned to the bathroom, he allegedly pushed his way inside before closing and locking the door behind him.

A nearby witness attempted to stop Davis and open the door, but was unable to enter. The victim was then heard screaming as loud thumping was heard coming from behind the door.

Eventually, Davis opened the door to confront the witness attempting to gain entry. Davis allegedly placed his hand on the witness who, in turn, pushed him away. This triggered a physical conflict between the two where Davis struck the witness in the face several times.

During the altercation, the victim was able to escape.
