The dogs of Lubbock residents will have their day at a City swimming pool next weekend.

Clapp Pool will host the K-9 SplashFest on Sunday, August 18th from 1 to 5 p.m.

This event allows people and their dogs to swim together in Clapp Pool. Dogs can also compete in three different contests, including a swim suit competition and diving and retrieving contests. Prizes will be awarded in each event. Door prizes and concessions will also be available.

All dogs must be up to date on their rabies vaccination and have a 2013 rabies tag or certificate from a veterinarian with them. Dogs must also be on a leash, and aggressive dogs or dogs in heat are not allowed.

City of Lubbock Animal Services will also host a booth at this event, and will be providing microchips for dogs for $10 per pet.

Clapp Pool is located inside K.N. Clapp Park at 46th Street and Avenue U. Admission fees for participants are $2.50 for adults and $2 for attendees 17 or younger. Dogs are admitted for free.

Sunday, August 18th is also the last day to swim at municipal pools.

City of Lubbock Pools include Maxey, Montelongo, Simmons, and Clapp Pools, and will be closed until 2014 after August 18th.
