Another Major Retailer Is Closing All Stores In Texas For 24 Hours, Here’s Why

Is there a new trend catching on when it comes to major employers giving their employees a day off on a major holiday? It sure seems like it, though not every business is closing for a day later this month.

Last week, we wrote about Target deciding that they would close all their locations in Texas and nationwide for Easter this year. A move I can't remember large retailers doing in the past. And while Target's big box rival will remain open, some other retailers are doing exactly what Target is doing, taking Easter off.

Texas Stores Closed For Easter

The latest to announce that they would be closed for Easter? One of the largest home improvement retailers in America, Lowe's.

Lowe's Home Improvement announced that all stores in Texas and throughout the United States will remain closed on Easter Sunday, April 20 this year. Lowe's Chairman and CEO, Marvin Ellison, applauded his employee's hard work and wanted to "provide a well-deserved day off so they can spend Easter with their loved ones".

Lowe's operates 1,751 locations in the United States according to Newsweek with Texas having the most locations at 144. Of course Lowe's customers will still be able to shop online and on the Lowe's app and be able to pick up their items on Monday of they are availble.

I think this is a great move by Lowe's and one that I believe most employees will appreciate. Giving people time off for a holiday to spend with family is good and I hope we see more of it from other companies in the future. Just like we have for Thanksgiving.
