Larry Hagman, the star of the CBS & TNT television show, "Dallas", died earlier today in Dallas. Hagman, 81, played the role of J.R. Ewing in both incarnations of the TV drama.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Hagman passed away with friends and family at his side. During his career, Hagman was nominated for four Golden Globes and two Emmy's for his work on "Dallas".

Before becoming J.R. Ewing for the first run of "Dallas" in 1978, Hagman was known for his role of Major Anthony Nelson in the comedy "I Dream of Jeannie".
