The Lamesa Independent School District has released a statement concerning an incident that occurred on their high school campus.

There was a slight scare at Lamesa High School Friday, February 22, when district officials were informed that a student had a weapon inside a parked vehicle in the parking lot.

Local police were promptly called to investigate. Officers searched the vehicle in question and recovered a firearm, but the district says that police have determined the student did not intend to bring the weapon to school.

Police say the weapon was used for hunting and that the student had forgotten to take it out of the vehicle. In any case, Lamesa ISD says the act did violate their Student Code of Conduct and that an investigation is still ongoing.
