Texas Tech’s chess team will defend their national championship.

The Tech Knight Raiders have qualified for the College Chess Final Four, following a strong performance at the 2011 PanAm Intercollegiate Championship earlier this week.

The Knight Raiders claimed victory after beating Princeton, University of Toronto, Washington, and Columbia at the championship, ultimately resulting in their advancement. They also tied New York University 2-2.

Tech will face the University of Texas- Dallas, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and New York University in the Final Four, which will take place this April in Washington, D.C. The Knight Raiders are currently ranked #1 in the nation.
