KFYO News Honors the Life of Ron Grant [AUDIO]

Yesterday, April 28, 2011, KFYO News and Townsquare Media lost one of our dearest friends and co-workers, Ron Grant.  Ron was known as the 'Voice of Lubbock' because voiced the vast majority of the commercials heard on Lubbock radio and seen on Lubbock TV.

Ron Grant had a voice you knew, the second you heard it.

Ron passed away Thursday, April 28 at the age of 40.

Ron lived his whole life in radio and television, mainly in the commercial production and voice-over areas of the business, both locally and nationally.  But Ron was more than a voice- he was a personality, larger than life.  At one Lubbock establishment, Ron was a real life “Norm Peterson”, just like the television show ‘Cheers’. Everyone knew his name and he loved talking to people.

Ron was an excellent DJ, including his most recent position as afternoon DJ on KOOL 98.

He also had a stint as a talkshow host on KFYO, hosting the ‘Ron Grant Show’ on Saturday afternoons from 2002-2005 and he was the first host of Lubbock’s First News in the Fall of 2005.

Ron got his start in the business at his hometown radio station in Ralls, the now defunct KCLR-AM.  He then went on to work at various stations in Lubbock, including FM 99, before spending time in Abilene and Austin and then coming back home to Lubbock over a decade ago.

Most recently, Ron became the news imaging voice for a group of television stations across the country, including Lubbock’s KCBD.

Ron Grant is survived by his mother, many relatives, and his co-workers here at Townsquare Media who loved working with him.  I was honored to call Ron ‘friend’ and there are many out there who will miss him.  Ron Grant lived from 1971 to 2011.
