Texas Tech heads into the final five games of the 2018 season with a 5-2 overall record, and on Saturday they could clinch a bowl trip. The last two bowl appearances for Kliff Kingsbury were clinched in must-win situations, so a mid-season clinching would be a refreshing experience. The Red Raiders Bowl Clinching opportunity is against Iowa State (3-3) in Ames.

The game against Iowa State, who is now a six-point favorite, is a dangerous game for the Red Raiders who will have home games against Oklahoma and Texas in the coming weeks. That's not to say Kliff Kingsbury is overlooking the Cyclones. Iowa State has a two-game winning streak against the Red Raiders and either game was close.

In fact, the last time Texas Tech went to Ames, Iowa the Red Raiders lost 66-10.

The 2016 Iowa State game was the low point of Kliff Kingsbury's tenure and felt like rock bottom. There were some lower points though in 2017 including the Iowa State game where they came to Lubbock and exerted their will and dominated Texas Tech 33-13 in a game where Iowa State never seemed to lack control.

This 2018 Texas Tech team is in a brand new world though and they haven't ever looked out of it, even in their two losses against Ole Miss and West Virginia.

The game is slated for an 11 a.m. kickoff on ESPN2. SportsRadio 1340 The Fan will air Countdown to Kickoff with Rob Breaux and Karson Robinson from 9 -11 a.m. Listen on the air (1340 AM), online or with the free 1340 The Fan app.
