A U.S. Senator from Texas is urging the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to release a review of the 2009 Fort Hood attack.

Senator John Cornyn has asked FBI Director Robert Mueller to release an unclassified version of the independent review of the FBI’s actions in conjunction with the November 2009 attack on Fort Hood.

The final review was expected to be released to the FBI Friday afternoon.

In his letter to Mueller, Cornyn says that “The key findings and recommendations of this report must be made public, so we can glean any and all lessons from this incident.”

He continues, saying “The devastation inflicted on them was preventable, and we must make it a high priority to ascertain exactly where the system broke down and ensure it does not happen again.”

Major Nidal Malik Hasan is the sole suspect, and was shot by Department of the Army Civilian Police Officers. He currently faces 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder.
