At Tuesday's meeting of the Lubbock City Council, Jerry Brewer was appointed as Interim Police Chief for the Lubbock Police Department.

Brewer was worked for the LPD for more than 30 years. According to City Manager Jarrett Atkinson, it isn’t the first time Brewer has been asked to fill the role of Interim Police Chief.

In 2015, Brewer was appointed as Interim Police Chief by former Lubbock City Manager James Loomis after the demotion of former Chief Roger Ellis.

Current Police Chief Greg Stevens will retire from his position on Friday. Brewer will assume his duties on Saturday until an official candidate for the position can be determined by the Lubbock City Council.
