PHOTOS: Texas Tech Destroys Tarleton State 41-3

The Texas Tech Red Raiders earned their first win of the season defeating the Tarleton State Texans 41-3 at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday Night. The win for the Red Raiders improves them to 1-2 on the season as the wrap up non-conference action.

Defender Malik Dunlap got the scoring started for the Red Raiders with a 54-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the first quarter to put the Red Raiders up 7-0. The Tech defense would force another stop of the Texans offense and turn around with a scoring drive that ended in a Tyler Shough 2-yard Touchdown run to make it 14-0. Tech would add another touchdown to finish out the quarter.

The Red Raider Offense ran for 221 yards on the night and made a concerted effort in rushing the football giving the ball to Running Back Tahj Brooks more than he carried in the previous two games. Brook carried the ball 19 times for 158 yards.

It wasn’t all roses for the Red Raiders as starting quarterback Tyler Shough struggled to find his rhythm throwing for only 123 yards on 10 of 20 passing. Shough was lifted for backup Behren Morton 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter and Morton led three successive drives scoring 17 points to give Tech a 41-3 victory. It’s safe to say that a “quarterback controversy” has emerged in Lubbock with Red Raider fans clamoring for Morton to get action on the field with the struggles of Shough.

The Red Raiders begin the Big 12 Conference season next Saturday at the West Virginia Mountaineers with a 2:30pm kickoff on ESPN+. The Mountaineers are 2-1 and took out their archrival Pittsburgh 17-6 in the Backyard Brawl Saturday Night.
