West Texas Explorer: Abandoned Red Carpet Cafe at 1099 Avenue L

While out exploring the In Town Inn/Jim Kimmel Center Motel I noticed a beautiful, but also very abandoned, looking small shack right next door to the property. I went back another day since night was soon approaching and didn't want to risk falling in the dark so I went back during the day. I take to the internet to do some research but I was able to find was that back in November of 2007 there was actually a very small restaurant hidden by towering trees.

The Red Carpet Restaurant was small and not like anything else in the area at the time as it literally had a red carpet from the entrance to the street so that you could feel like a movie star. There are no signs of what they once served except for an old chalkboard that reads the word 'STEAK' but that could be random vandalism. Most of the windows of this building are boarded up except for the back which have beautiful (French style?) iron bars adorning the building.

While I did follow what the notice on the entrance said and did not go into the building I was able to peek in through the front and back door windows which still had a style of elegance. You can see the insulation from the ceiling has come down and taken up most of the dining area along with the dust bunnies and cobwebs just showing how much time has passed since someone last stepped foot into the cafe.

There are plenty of possibilities for what could be put there if someone were to buy the building but it is for sure a fixer upper that might need a lot of work. We are currently looking more into the buildings past, if it's currently owned by anyone and if there are any future plans.
