Trick-or-treating is just around the corner! You might notice some brightly colored pumpkins and trick-or-treat buckets when you're out with your kids, and it's important to know what they mean. They aren't just colorful for fun. Some of them are sending important messages to strangers.

Here's the breakdown of what each colored pumpkin means:

Teal pumpkins signify that the trick-or-treater needs a non-food item, like a sticker or a small toy. The child carrying a teal pumpkin could have food allergies. It's always a good idea to buy a small roll of stickers just in case! A teal pumpkin on the porch of a house can also mean that the home has non-food items for kids who need them.

Purple pumpkins and purple candy buckets signify epilepsy. If a house has a purple pumpkin out on the porch, they might be trying to tell you that a person in their home has epileptic seizures. They also might be letting you know that they understand epilepsy and know how to respond to it.

Of course, pink pumpkins are for breast cancer awareness. If you spot one, it might mean the person it belongs to is a breast cancer survivor, or that they are going through treatment, or perhaps they know someone who is.

A blue pumpkin or blue candy bucket can help inform others that a child is autistic. It's just a reminder to be extra patient, kind, and understanding. The child carrying it may not be able to communicate with you.

Happy Halloween!
