Lubbock’s Quality Of Life Takes Another Hit
Lubbock will have no pools open this summer.
You can search my older posts if you'd like. You'll find quite a number of them complaining about the lack of green spaces and quality of life type places. Our city leadership has continued to kick the can down the road when it comes to these investments, and now that can is crushed, rusty, and falling apart.
There is an old saying, "You cannot save your way to prosperity". Yes, you can do okay saving a buck here and there, but to truly become wealthy you have to invest your funds. We are now seeing the results in this lack of investments with even less for the community to enjoy this summer.
If you have not heard, the last city owned pool will remain closed this year. I cannot tell you how many hours I spent at a community pool, I can only tell you I went from beginner swimming lessons all the way through receiving my Red Cross Certification as a lifeguard. That's a ton of hours of recreation and training, instead of causing trouble in my neighborhood.
It is firmly my belief that the number one cause of delinquency, drug abuse, and misbehavior among kids and teens is boredom. We are about to have a generational problem with a lack of opportunities for recreation out there. Yes, we still have sports leagues, and video games at the house, but everything works together like a puzzle and we have serious pieces missing.
We have to push Lubbock forward. I understand budgets, we all have to live within them. I also understand that we all have to splurge every once in a while to make the grind worth it. Investing in recreation in Lubbock is a money multiplier that will bring people to town and help keep kids out of trouble. The only way we lose is by not doing it.
