The Scary Way Your iPhone Is Tracking Your Movements
Do you use "Location Services" on your iPhone? Most of you do. You can use it to find places on maps, phone numbers and more. You've probably been asked just this week to turn it on (if it's not already on). Well, every time it's on, it's tracking and storing where you go.
So, are you ready to see how your phone has been tracking you? It's not that hard to do. Grab your iPhone and follow me in this video. It's pretty easy to find out if you've been tracked and to turn off the feature.
If you're not able to watch the video above, the steps are below:
- Go to your iPhone's settings
- Select "Privacy"
- Click on "Location Services" (if this is already set to off, you're good to go)
- Scroll way down and click "System Services"
- Scroll down and click "Frequent Locations"
- Here you can click on one of the locations listed and see that it's recorded when you were there, including the times.
This change was implemented way back in the iOS7 update. According to Apple, this information is only stored on the device, but the company adds the caveat that some third-party apps do require permission to see your current location.
Apple CEO Tim Cook wrote this in regards to the company's privacy policy:
We don’t build a profile based on your email content or web browsing habits to sell to advertisers. We don’t “monetize” the information you store on your iPhone or in iCloud. And we don’t read your email or your messages to get information to market to you. Our software and services are designed to make our devices better. Plain and simple.
