A Historic Texas Estate, Dallas’ ‘Mount Vernon’, Is Now For Sale
Have you ever wanted to live in a mansion that was built to look like George Washington's Mount Vernon? Well, now you can. Only this Mount Vernon estate is located in Dallas and overlooks White Rock Lake.
Dallas' Mount Vernon Estate Is For Sale Again
If you've ever been to the Dallas Arboretum or to White Rock Lake, you have probably seen Mount Vernon in the distance overlooking the lake. The mansion is beautiful, and you can tell that the Georgian-style mansion is modeled after George Washington's estate in Virginia.
The asking price for the estate? $20 million, which, according to the Dallas Morning News, made it the most expensive home listed in Texas last month.

The History of Dallas' Mount Vernon
According to the Dallas Morning News, the home was built in 1930 by Thomas Y. Pickett but wasn't completed until H.L. Hunt purchased the estate in 1938. The asking price back then? $68,000. The property sits on 10 acres. The main house has five bedrooms and 6 1/2 baths, and 10,500 square feet. The estate has a tennis court, heated pool, putting greens, a four-lane bowling alley, and a 16-car garage which can double as a formal event space.
The current owners, the Amends, purchased the property from Ruth Ray Hunt in 1999. If you are a sports fan, yes, the Hunt family that owned the home is the same NFL Hunt family.
The home has been listed for sale on and off since 2012 until 2021, and is back on the market now.
