The History of Dallas' Mount Vernon

According to the Dallas Morning News, the home was built in 1930 by Thomas Y. Pickett but wasn't completed until H.L. Hunt purchased the estate in 1938. The asking price back then? $68,000. The property sits on 10 acres. The main house has five bedrooms and 6 1/2 baths, and 10,500 square feet. The estate has a tennis court, heated pool, putting greens, a four-lane bowling alley, and a 16-car garage which can double as a formal event space.

The current owners, the Amends, purchased the property from Ruth Ray Hunt in 1999. If you are a sports fan, yes, the Hunt family that owned the home is the same NFL Hunt family.

The home has been listed for sale on and off since 2012 until 2021, and is back on the market now.
