Late Tuesday morning, Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson officially announced he is running for Congress.

Robertson will join the bevy of candidates seeking to replace Congressman Randy Neugebauer in 2016. Robertson will run in the Republican primary.

"Today I am announcing my campaign for Congress in Texas’ 19th District," Robertson said in a released statement.

"Should I have the honor and privilege of serving in Congress, my number one priority will be putting the interests of West Texas and the Big Country first," he said. "I will hold a formal campaign kick-off on October 26 in Lubbock, followed by announcement events across the District throughout that week. My wife Karen and I look forward to meeting voters and listening to their concerns regarding our Country’s future."

Last month, Congressman Neugebauer announced he would not run for re-election in 2016.

Robertson was first elected Lubbock mayor in May 2012.
