There seems to be a bad rep out there that technology makes you fat and lazy. While that may have been true in the past, that's definitely not the case anymore. In fact, one of the great things about smartphones is they go everywhere with you, including the gym. To that end, there is a huge variety of apps out there to help you in your workout, whether you're hitting the treadmill or hitting the weights. Here's a few apps that will help get you off your duff and get active.

One of the most well-known fitness apps out there, Nike+ has pretty much everything you need for running. Some of its many features includes GPS tracking, calorie tracker, pedometer, and the ability to stream your own music while you run. Nike+ also gets your friends in on the action with social media integration. When you post about going on a run with Nike+, your friends can then send you messages through the app to encourage you to keep on running (or mercilessly tease you, whatever motivates you I guess...) Nike+ is available for free on both iPhones and Android phones.

RunKeeper is another great option for staying active. Like Nike+, it comes with GPS and streaming music. But while Nike+ only focuses on runners, RunKeeper extends many of the same feature to cyclists, walkers, and even skiers. Runkeeper also gives you audio updates throughout your run informing you of your current progress, so it's a great way to stay on track through those long sprints. Runkeeper is available for iPhones only, and costs $9.99 for the full version, although there is a free version available.

Running not your thing? Try a little yoga. Pocket Yoga features over 150 illustrated poses and guides, complete with detailed explanations of how to perform them. The app also allows you to create your own custom routines. No need to hit the yoga studio anymore, now you can practice right in your own home. And if you're like me, you can stumble and strain through all the different poses without worrying about anyone else laughing at you. Pocket Yoga is available for iPhone and iPad for $2.99.

Looking for a little more motivation when you run? How about running away from bloodthirsty zombies? Capitalizing on our love for all things zombie,  "Zombies, Run!" takes you on an interactive survival adventure that combines zombie horror with running training. The app allows you to listen to your own music as you run, but interjects "radio broadcasts" giving you new missions, alerting you to when you find supplies or complete a mission, or telling you to run for your life as zombies surround you from all sides. It also includes real-world 5K running training, so whether you're a beginner or a seasoned runner, you can start training for the zombie apocalypse. "Zombies, Run!" is available for both iPhone and Android, and costs $3.99 for the full version, and $1.99 for the 5K trainer
