The Frenship ISD Board of Trustees unanimously accepted the recommendation of 32-year-old law enforcement veteran Roy Bassett as the district's new chief of police.

FISD Superintendent Dr. Michelle McCord made the recommendation during the district's monthly board meeting Monday night.

Bassett earned the title of Certified Peace Officer from the Lubbock Police Academy in 1987 after receiving his bachelor's from Texas Tech. He received the Master Peace Officer certificate in July of 2000.

Bassett served in numerous capacities during his time with LPD, including a 10-year period as a detective in juvenile cases. Bassett's most recent position was a s Deputy Chief.

Bassett is set to begin his new role in January.
