A former teacher and coach at Witharral ISD is facing felony charges of having an improper relationship with a student.

According to news sources, Gregory Austin Flores left Witharral ISD (located between Littlefield and Levelland) around June 28th and began his new job as athletic director and head football coach of Crowell ISD (located about 35 miles east of Paducah).

However, after less than two months on the job, Crowell Superintendent Pam Norwood has confirmed that Flores is no longer employed with the school district.

Flores’ firing is likely tied to the felony charge he now faces of having an improper relationship with a female student while employed at Witharral ISD, where he worked as head football coach since 2018.

On Thursday, August 15th, a felony arrest warrant was issued for Flores’ arrest. The next day Flores turned himself in to Lubbock law enforcement and has since been released on bond.

Flores is accused of exchanging explicit messages with a female student through social media and engaging in sexual conduct with that student on several occasions in the Witharral area.

Allegations of the relationship were first brought to the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office by an unidentified high school student. If convicted, Flores could face a fine of up to $10,000 and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
