Wednesday, February 15th, the Roswell, New Mexico Police Department released a video of a shooting involving an officer that ended with a fatality.

According to KAMC News, which posted the lapel cam footage of the shooting, police identified the man who was shot and killed as Shayne Romero, 30, of Peralta, New Mexico. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when an officer was checking a stolen vehicle at a Roswell Motel.

Romero first told officers that he owned the car, but fled the scene and pulled out a gun and began to fire at the officer who pursued him.

The officer on the scene returned fire and hit Romero once in the shoulder and once in the leg. A second officer told the suspect to discard his weapon, but Romero shot himself instead.

Two police officers have been placed on administrative leave.
