Lubbock’s First United Methodist Church has brought magnificent musical theater productions to area residents for nearly four decades, and will present another this weekend.

Around 150 people are working their hardest to bring "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" to life at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, as a fundraiser for the church.

Anyone who has attended these performances knows that the FUMC productions are not just another half-baked theatre troupe, but rather strive to put on visually dazzling performances with some of the most talented performers in the area, all at a price that won’t destroy your bank balance.

Granted, I’m a bit biased after having been in two of the church’s recent productions, but I’m able to profess first hand on the amount of work which goes into preparations for these shows.

The sets are always quite impressive for the church’s shows, often both in ingenuity of use and sheer stage presence. The use of excellent orchestras and some of Lubbock’s finest actors make these performances a great memory for families around the region.

As always, these performances are tailored to be family-friendly, so that people of all ages can be welcome to enjoy the shows.

Tickets are $10, $15, or $20 dollars, and can be purchased from Select-a-Seat at 770-2000, or by visiting selectaseat.com.

Support a group that always heartily gives back to the arts community in Lubbock, and bring the family to see a performance that you will remember for years to come.
