Federal Jury Acquits Lubbock Businessman in Bribery Case
Friday evening (Nov. 9), a San Antonio federal jury acquitted a Lubbock businessman, who was accused of conspiring to bribe a county judge in West Texas.
The San Antonio Express News reports Vernon "Trey" Farthing III was found not guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Prosecutors accused Farthing of being persuaded by a former Reeves County Judge to hire former State Senator Carlos Uresti as a consultant. Uresti pleaded guilty in October to a charge of conspiracy to commit bribery. The Reeves County Judge, Jimmy Galindo, also pleaded guilty to the bribery charge.
Uresti and Galindo will be sentenced in January 2019.
