The Lubbock County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that one person was pronounced dead after reports of gunfire on Wednesday night in the 1600 block of 126th Street.

The initial call came in at about 7:20 p.m. according to the Sherff's Office which issued a press released earlier today.

Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputies immediately responded to the 1600 block of 126th Street.
Michael Joseph Owens, age 37, was located on the property with a fatal gunshot wound. The
caller, who reported they were also the shooter, was still on the property and turned himself in to
law enforcement.
This is an active investigation that has been turned over to the Lubbock Metropolitan Special
Crimes Unit. During the course of this investigation, a murder warrant was issued for the
shooter, who was identified as Michael Vernie Owens. Mr. Owens has been arrested and is
currently in the Lubbock County Detention Center.

The suspect at this time remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
