Wednesday on KFYO Mornings with Dave King and Matt Martin, The President of Texas Tech University Dr. Lawrence Schovanec joined Dave and Matt to talk about Texas Tech athletics, his trip down to Austin yesterday, Texas Tech registration, Tech in the Forbes rankings, new funding, and more.

Dr. Schovanec started the discussion by talking about the aftermath of Texas Tech basketball. "It's been pretty neat and all the after effects have been really wonderful," Schovanec said. He went on to say that he, Kirby Hocutt, Coach Beard, and 4 of the players went down to Austin yesterday to meet with the Governor and Speaker, and go to the chambers of the Lt. Governor. They were also recognized on the floor of the House and Senate.

The President also mentioned how Coach Beard wants the city and school to be behind him and wants the United Supermarkets Arena to be a packed and loud space and a place that other schools don't want to play against Tech. When talking about Beard, Schovanec said, "He's done an incredible job of engaging the student body, the fanbase. That's one of his real talents."

Dr. Schovanec was also asked about Texas Tech registration and how basketball has had an impact on it. Schovanec had this to say, "That effect is probably not as great as the impression that might have been created." Despite that, he went on to explain that they're registration is still trending upwards, and that the visibility is still wonderful.
