What do you think? Invasion of privacy or a necessary step to mitigate kids using e-cigarettes at school? Whatever your response may be, you have some enemies in this Texas city.

One Big Smoke Show

According to recent reports from My San Antonio, Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School in Boerne, TX is removing bathroom doors after an increase in cases of teenagers vaping on school grounds.

One Boerne ISD official told the news outlet that recent safety steps have been taken at the school, such as "the removal of entrance doors from the hallway that lead into restrooms."

Adding even more to this, some staff have taken to removing mirrors in bathrooms that could be used to spy on approaching teachers or officials heading their way.

I mean, I have to admit, these kids are getting crafty with their rule-breaking.

Additional solutions implemented by district staff include constant monitoring of the bathrooms during classes and even during passing periods.

It's Not a Phase, Mom!

Parental feedback was... mixed, to say the least. Some felt that this move was a breach on their child's right to privacy. It's important to note that the stall doors were left untouched, but some students reported they felt uncomfortable using the restroom without a door to separate their stall from the hallway.

On the other hand, some are saying that this notion of mitigating kids smoking in the bathroom is nothing new (insert Motely Crue joke here).

Boerne ISD considers the possession of an e-cigarette a major offense, and all students caught with one will be sent to alternative schooling. Not to mention that it's against the law for anyone under the age of 21 to smoke in Texas.

So, I ask again: What do you think about these steps taken at this Texas high school? Does it violate the rights of privacy for these students or is it a necessary evil to stop a harmful habit?
